Democrats Left Weakened After Unprecedented Government Closure Produces Little Concessions

After 43 days, the lengthiest federal government closure in the nation's history is coming to an end.

Public sector staff will start receiving salary anew. Federal parks will return to normal. Federal operations that had been curtailed or fully stopped will resume. Flight operations, which had become a nightmare for numerous citizens, will return to being simply annoying.

What Was Achieved?

Once the situation calms and the approval from President Donald Trump's authorization on the budget measure sets, what exactly has this unprecedented shutdown achieved? And what price was paid?

Senate Democrats, through utilizing the legislative delaying tactic, were able to initiate the shutdown despite being a minority in the chamber by declining to support a Republican measure to offer interim support to the government.

The Minority Stand

They drew a firm boundary, insisting that the majority party approve the extension of healthcare financial support for financially struggling individuals that are due to terminate at the year's conclusion.

When a handful opposition legislators defected from the party to support reopening the government on recently, they received very little in return – an assurance of legislative action in the Senate on the financial assistance, but no assurances of Republican support or even a necessary vote in the Congressional house.

Internal Tension

In the aftermath, individuals within the progressive wing have been angry.

They have alleged Senate Democratic leader the Democratic leader – who declined to support the funding bill – of being privately involved in the government restart strategy or simply incompetent. They've felt like their faction capitulated even after recent electoral victories showed they had a stronger position. They feared that the shutdown sacrifices had been without purpose.

Even more centrist party figures, like the state executive from California the California governor, labeled the closure agreement "pathetic" and "capitulation".

"I don't intend to punch anybody in the face," he informed the Associated Press, "yet I'm unhappy that, confronting this invasive species that is Donald Trump, who's completely changed the rules of the game, that we persist functioning by traditional methods."

Political Consequences

This prominent Democrat has potential national political goals and functions as a good barometer for the attitude of the party. He was a loyal supporter of the current administration who showed up to endorse the sitting president even after his poor debate showing against his opponent.

If he is running for the pitchforks, it represents a good sign for Democratic leaders.

Majority Party Position

Regarding the former president, in the days since the legislative impasse broke on Sunday, his mood has shifted from measured hopefulness to victory.

Earlier this week, he congratulated party members and called the vote to reopen the government "a significant triumph".

"We are resuming our country," he said at a patriotic ceremony at Arlington Cemetery. "This closure was unnecessary."

The former president, possibly detecting the minority dissatisfaction toward the Democratic figure, joined the pile-on during a television appearance on Monday night.

"He believed he would fracture the majority party, and the GOP overcame him," the former president stated of the Senate Democrat.

Future Considerations

Despite moments when Trump looked like yielding – last week he scolded majority party members for declining to eliminate the filibuster to end the shutdown – he finally appeared from the shutdown having made little in the way of meaningful compromises.

While his poll numbers have dropped over the recent weeks, there's still a twelve months before the majority party have to encounter the electorate in the midterms. And, unless there is basic governmental alteration, the former president can avoid anxiety regarding running for office in the future.

Legislative Coming Agenda

With the end of the federal stoppage, the federal lawmakers will return to its regularly scheduled programming. Although the House of Representatives has effectively been on ice for several weeks, GOP members still expect they will approve some substantive legislation before next year's election cycle kicks in.

While several public institutions will be financed until late summer in the closure resolution, Congress will have to approve spending for the rest of the government by the late winter to prevent another shutdown.

Ongoing Challenges

The opposition party, licking their wounds, might be seeking additional opportunities to fight.

Meanwhile, the matter of dispute – insurance financial support – could become a pressing concern for many millions of U.S. citizens who will experience premium increases double or triple at the end of the year. Republicans ignore addressing such citizen difficulty at their own political peril.

Furthermore, this represents not the sole danger facing the former president and the majority party. One particular day that was expected to focus on the congressional budget approval was devoted to discussing new information surrounding the deceased criminal the financier.

Additional Challenges

Subsequently, Congresswoman the Arizona representative was formally installed to her House position and became the concluding supporter on a petition that will force the legislative body to schedule decision instructing the government legal system to make public entire records on the Epstein case.

The situation reached a point to lead the Republican to protest, on his social media platform, that his budget victory was being eclipsed.

"The Democrats are trying to bring up the disputed matter anew because they'll do anything possible to deflect on their poor performance
