A Ton of Anime Updates Arrived Over the Holidays

The winter break provide a wealth of activities far superior than checking the latest news: unwrapping gifts, feasting on festive fare, and employing patience techniques to refrain from yelling at family members. Hopefully you managed to do all these things and more. That said, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting announcements surfaced over the break, and should you overlooked a few, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Perhaps the biggest piece of news, the notorious controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop more episodes. Season 3 will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they easily could have called it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. However, the key visual for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they could be trolling the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now the community is overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been airing for years, and its sixth season was a further stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio known for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two

Immediately following the airing of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has yet to be revealed.
